Frying Pan Anglers

Check these out, especially the Frying Pan Anglers, these guys are great and very helpful!

_______________

Recommended Flies: We are now well into the summer season so the full array of food is available to the trout which have benefitted from the high water and little interference from fishermen. So be prepared to try midges, BWO's, PMD's, drakes, caddis and terrestrials.

The midges will come off during the day, particularly if it is sunny. So try WD-40's #20 , red and black chironocones #20, brassie's #18 - #22, midge larva patterns #18 - #22, copper johns #18 - #22, black polywings #18 - #22 and garcia's rojo midges # 18 - #22.

If the fish start moving higher in the water column or get active under the surface, try the gray loopwing emergers #20 - #22, the FPA special emergers, biot emergers both with and without the trailing shuck and gray RS2's #18 - #22.

When they are on the surface, try dry patterns such as the z-wing real midge, suspended midge and any similar dry black and gray patterns such as a parachute Adams in sizes from #20 through to #28.

For baetis, try some small nymph patterns such as pheasant tails and the FPA sparkle baetis #20 - #24 down deep. In addition try the emerger patterns like crystal hunchback, juju baetis, the mighty mite, icebreakers and the FPA sparkle baetis - #18 - #24 and rs2 #18 - #22 and soft hackle baetis #18 -#22.

                    Frying Pan River Weekend August!

With all of the Rivers still in full runoff levels, what better place to fish than the Frying Pan! Sure it get’s crowded, sure it’s 3 hours away but come on…where else are you going to find a better place to fish right now than the Pan?

Since my busy season is picking up and my shoulder surgery is not far off this is about as a good of a time as any. Dave, Brian, Greg, Steve and I all made it out for a fun weekend. Okay I forgot the kids, Zeke, Sushi and Jed.

Talk about a big boy on and yes my rod is torqued completely! I played a Big 7-8lb Cutthroat for a bit and we had many opprtunities to land it, but it wasn't meant to be.  Brian tried his best a few times but in the end he swam away to laugh at another fisherman.

Best piece of Advice.....Bring a bigger net!! We had some pretty small nets compared to what we needed to land this beasts.

Dave did great fishing all weekend and it didn't take him long to hook up on some fish when we got there Friday night. The Bend pool was the place to be for sure!

Brain and Greg were only here for a brief period so sorry guys we didn't get many pictures of you. They both caught plenty of fish and Greg, who came in from California, even got into some hot dry fly action.

Steve was the Master at catching fish at the Honey Hole on Sunday. We hit this pool and couldn't stop catching fish for most of the day! Dries or Nymphs it didn't seem to matter.

Met at my favorite spot of the entire river, no mile markers to give out here let's just say it's not up top and not down low! I think all in all I caught 15 in this spot on Sat in a few hours missing another 20. I think I lucked out with a 30-40 fish day today....whew!! Mostly all on top!! Sunday it was about the same with less action but the same results. Man do I love this spot.

Water levels througout the state were way up still so whenever that happens there's one thing to do....head to the Pan. The water was around 200cfs but compared to when we hit it a few months back at 350 both fished extremely well and I couldn't tell a difference except maybe from a wading standpoint.

Middle section Pan fishing on a sunny Summer day sure beats sitting back in Denver at 95' degree weather anyday. Cloud cover late each day but most mornings were night and shiny.

Bugs and more Bugs! We noticed PMD's, Blue Wings, a few Drakes though most were emerging during the day and a few came out at night. Green midges, orange bodied mayflies and no caddis this time.

PMD's from around 1pm-4pm each day

Drakes and Spinners hitting downstream all day from markers 8-12mi were the ticket. Mile markers 8-9 were crazy late afternoon and evenings on almost every casts.

Steve with another good looking brown trout caught on a pmd emerger. Sushi was always close by to look at papa catching fish.

Another good fish on at the bend pool by troutdawg. I loved fishing this spot, especially since Friday night and a few hours on Sunday night we had it to ourselves.

18' Brown night release around 9pm. Size #10 Drakes on almost every casts did he job on Sat and on Sunday night an orange bodied Quill #16 was chowed down in a matter of minutes before having to put another on again.

Jed on the Lookout for Papa Brian fishing close by!  That and Jed is one great guard dog when it comes to idiots getting close to our fishing spots, a few tail wags and they leave immediately in fear and being licked to death.
